Frequently asked questions

Common questions and answers about Respectful free range hens and their eggs

What are solar panels?

A carbon footprint is the impact an activity has on the environment in terms of the total amount of carbon dioxide (greenhouse gas) it produces. Carbon dioxide is produced by burning fossil fuels, the source of most of our electricity in the UK. Increasing levels of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere are directly linked to global warming and climate change. Wind turbines and solar panels, such as the ones used in Respectful Farms are both renewable energy sources and therefore carbon neutral.

Where can I buy Respectful eggs?

Respectful eggs are available from all ASDA stores in England and Wales and cab be bought online from www.asda.co.uk

How much do Respectful eggs cost?

Respectful eggs cost the same as an average box of free range eggs.

How do you manage to keep the Respectful egg prices so low?

Stonegate, the company behind the brand, is investing in the future of sustainable energy in British farming. It is working in partnership with farmers to help them invest in sustainable power sources such as wind and solar (rather than fossil fuels) to produce Respectful eggs.

What is the maximum number in a Respectful flock?

Four thousand is the maximum size of a Respectful flock and all our hens are housed in mobile homes to ensure they have regular new pasture and because they are more environmentally friendly.

What welfare standards do Respectful eggs comply with?

Respectful eggs are produced to the high standards required by the Lion Egg quality scheme.

What is the Lion stamp?

The Lion Quality mark on egg shells and egg boxes means that the eggs have been produced to the highest standards of food safety in the world. All Respectful eggs are stamped with the Lion symbol, guaranteeing that the hens are vaccinated against salmonella. See www.britegg.co.uk for further details.

Why aren't Respectful Eggs organic?

We estimate that 40 per cent of organic hen feed used in the UK is imported from overseas. The sourcing of our free-range feed locally is in line with our commitment to reduce the carbon footprint of Respectful Eggs.

How does Respectful plan to reduce its carbon footprint even further?

All our Respectful farms are carbon neutral. We believe that demand for Respectful eggs will continue to grow and grow so we can continue to help egg farmers to invest in more wind and solar powered farms, which will reduce transportation distances between farms and supermarket depots.
