The things that we do every day have a huge impact on the world we live in.
Watching TV, driving to school, boiling a kettle and even throwing away rubbish; they all contribute to pollutions and global warming. No one knows exactly how much harmful they will be in the long run, but that doesn't mean we should sit back and do nothing.
What is a carbon footprint?
A carbon footprint is the amount of pollution and global warming that an activity has on our world. For example, a holiday in the UK will have a lower carbon footprint than a holiday to Australia because you will use less fuel as you travel. You won’t be flying on a plane and burning diesel non stop for 24 hrs. Respectful Eggs come from wind and solar powered farms so they have a lower carbon footprint than other free-range eggs which come from farms that use conventional power.
What is pollution?
Pollution basically means dirtying up the Earth and our environment. Imagine playing football in the rain and then going home and stomping across the carpet in your muddy shoes. If you did that everyday - you wouldn't much fancy lying on the carpet in front of the TV anymore. Treat the Earth like your home.
What is global warming?
Global Warming happens when gases in our atmosphere trap heat from the Sun and keep the Earth warm. We know that the Earth's climate has changed slowly over millions of years. What is worrying is that over the last 100 years the temperature has gone up a lot faster. Pollution and the burning of fossil fuel (petrol, gas, diesel etc) are the biggest contributors to Global Warming, so we should all try to save energy and pollute as little as possible.
